klosterneuburg wine school

a competition entry for the extension of the klosterneuburg college for viticulture and pomology (hbla & ba). a timber box with a porous arcade houses the farm-gate shop on the ground floor and engages the listed square; above it, offices, labs and glasshouses for vine breeding are stacked.

the reduced height and the light-permeable glasshouse crown deliberately hold back, giving the historic ensemble room to breathe. a sunken event and gym hall connects to the square via a stepped grandstand. timber construction (clt, glulam) with a high degree of prefabrication over solid basement levels.
